Abstract : The current work is aiming to study the interactions of unsaturated polyester resin with different materials because of their importance in different applications. This study involves the interaction between the unsaturated polyester resin and inorganic fillers, organic additives and nanosized materials such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with the use of other materials to enhance the expected interactions. Al2O3 was also used as reinforcing material either alone or in combination with CNTs. The unsaturated polyester resin was treated with bromine to control the extent of the unsaturation over the polyester resin mixture. The nature of the composite and interaction between the polymer and the added materials were investigated as well as the additives content which plays a major role in influencing the mechanical properties of the polymeric material overlapped with the base polymer. Besides, the obtained materials were characterized with different techniques including FT-IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy and mechanical testing.
